PHILIP ANSELMO Talks Hypothetical PANTERA 'Reunion'; Says He Isn't 'Sold' On ZAKK WYLDE Idea

May 15, 2012

Ned of the WGRD 97.9 FM radio station in Grand Rapids, Michigan recently conducted an interview with former PANTERA and current DOWN frontman Philip Anselmo. You can now listen to the entire 13-minute chat in the YouTube clip below. A couple of excerpts follow.

On the possibility of a PANTERA reunion with Zakk Wylde (BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, OZZY OSBOURNE) filling in for the late "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott on guitar:

Anselmo: "That's an interesting question. Well, look, before anything like that could possibly happen, Vince [Vinnie Paul Abbott, Dimebag's brother and former PANTERA drummer] and I would have to actually be in the same room, we'd have to sit down, hash out whatever differences, demons… whatever… we'd have to hash it all out. And as far as Zakk Wylde goes, I'm not so sold on all that, because I think he and I have to sit down and hash some crap out. That day has not come yet, and [when] that day comes, I can comment further on it. As of right now, it's just talk."

On whether he thinks a possible Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction in the future would be a good opportunity for the surviving members of PANTERA to reunite on stage:

Anselmo: "Well, first and foremost, I can't even imagine us being inducted into the Hall Of Fame, but then again, I couldn't even imagine us having the amount of success that we've done. I don't look into the crystal ball of it all. All I do is what I do, and if people like it, that's their decision. I don't really have much say-so in that, and I don't expect things like this. First of all, like I say, the whole Hall Of Fame thing would be, actually, quite surprising to me. But if it had to happen like that, believe me, if I knew Vince and Rex [Brown, former PANTERA bassist] were gonna be there, you bet your ass I would be there — heck yeah, I would be there, man. I would show up with the best intentions in mind. I'm the type of the guy to where I can't hold a grudge, man. I do forgive; it's just my nature. Like I say, there is a lot of stuff for Vince and I to hash out. And I think, me personally, the way I feel about it is I think we can hash that stuff out if I was ever given a chance to talk to the guy — even on the freaking phone. But I'm not afforded that luxury, so really, once again, it's just wishful thinking, but like I say, my door is wide open. Fucking, man, I really wish it."
